Shubman Gill made his Test debut against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) during the Boxing Day Test. He impressed one and all by his calm demeanour and sound technique against the Aussie quicks.

Gill finished the game with 45 and 35* to his name as India achieved an 8-wicket victory over the hosts.

His Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) teammate Pat Cummins believed that the youngster not only looked calm but also was settled during his stay in the middle. He was also impressed by the fact that Gill is looking to cash in on the opportunities provided by the bowlers to him instead of going into a shell.

AUS v IND 2020-21: ‘They'll come good’, Cummins backs Australian batsmen to deliver in the last two Tests

Cummins told the media on Wednesday, “Shubi (Shubman Gill) looked good. You know he is quite a calm character, doesn't seem too much fazed, looked quite settled in the first Test. Looked similar to the way he plays, wants to take the game on when the bowlers provide opportunities. Some days they come off, some days they don't.

Pat Cummins has been incredibly successful against Team India’s No. 3, Cheteshwar Pujara. The Aussie quick has picked the wicket of Pujara 3 times out of the 4 innings he has batted in the first two Tests.

He wants to keep it lowkey as he stated that the usual plan of making him play at deliveries has returned exceptional results at the start of his innings.

The big ground plan hasn't changed. We just try to bowl good balls. Make him make the decision to play or leave it and just try and do it for as long as we can. Fortunately, it has come off pretty early in his innings.

Nothing has drastically changed. We just concentrate on what we do for a longer time. So far it has worked. I'd be lying if I say we have this grand plan that has changed from last time,” the 27-year-old said.
