Team India on Tuesday (December 29) completed a comprehensive 8-wicket victory over Australia in the second Test at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Having lost the opening Test at Adelaide in a humiliating fashion, the visitors displayed immense character and dominated the Melbourne Test from Day 1.
Resuming their second innings on 133/6, Australia got bowled out for 200 in the first session on Day 4. Cameron Green was the top-scorer for the hosts with 45.
Mohammad Siraj claimed three wickets for India while Jasprit Bumrah, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja picked up two scalps each.
Chasing the target of 70 in the fourth innings, the tourists lost Mayank Agarwal (5) and Cheteshwar Pujara (3) cheaply but rode on debutant Shubman Gill’s unbeaten 35 and stand-in skipper Ajinkya Rahane’s 27 not out to get over the line with 8 wickets in hand.
Cricket experts on Twitter hailed India’s dominant display in the Boxing Day Test, which saw them levelling the four-Test series 1-1 with two Tests still to be played.
