Having taken an overall lead of 82 runs at stumps on Day 2, Team India were expected to dominate the Melbourne Test on the third day but the visitors’ lower order collapsed in the first session.
India were 277 for 5 at the close of play on Day 2, with stand-in skipper Ajinkya Rahane and Ravindra Jadeja still unbeaten at the crease.
However, the Australian bowlers bounced back well to bowl out the visitors for 326 and restrain the lead to 131.
The collapse triggered with Rahane getting run-out against the run of play in the 100th over of Indian innings.
Jadeja was batting on 49 when he played a defensive shot off Nathan Lyon and rushed for a quick single to complete his fifty. In all fairness to Jadeja, Rahane didn’t hesitate while starting the run. He initially seemed to have completed the run but the replays showed his bat was on the line and he was given out.
Despite getting run out for 112, Rahane didn’t vent out his frustration. In fact, he went up to Jadeja, tapped him as if to say that the innings wasn't over and he should kick on from here.
The Indian captain’s gesture to Jadeja won the hearts of netizens on Twitter.
Unfortunately for the tourists, Jadeja also got out some overs later. Mitchell Starc removed the all-rounder for 57.
