Australia captain Tim Paine survived a close run-out appeal on day one of the Boxing Day Test against India. Paine's bat appeared to be on the line when he tried to enter the crease after a mix-up with teammate Cameron Green at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

Former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer expressed his displeasure over the run-out decision by the third umpire. It was the 55th over when the incident happened and Paine got the benefit of the doubt.

After the mix-up between Green and Paine, Umesh Yadav came up with the throw which was collected by wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant to dislodge the bails.

Unfortunately for India, the third umpire felt there was some part of the bat over the line to save the Australia skipper. After the decision, India's stand-in captain Ajinkya Rahane was seen having a chat with the umpires.

Jaffer took to Twitter to share a hilarious meme on the incident. He felt the umpire had his eyes closed while making the decision. 

Nevertheless, Paine was soon dismissed by R Ashwin for 13 in the 63rd over, leaving Australia 7 down for 155. Australia were eventually bowled out for 195 with Jasprit Bumrah and Ravichandran Ashwin picking up four and three wickets respectively.
