Former Australia cricketer Brad Hogg has thrown his support behind struggling India opener Prithvi Shaw, suggesting the tourists to play the “talented” youngster in the middle order in Tests.
Shaw has been badly struggling to fina his form with the bat and on the radar for his form especially after 0,4 scores in the first Day-Night Test in the ongoing Test series in Australia.
He also ensured a poor IPL 2020 with the Delhi Capitals in the UAE before being traveled to Australia for the Test series.
While many finding fault in the youngster’s batting technique, especially against swing bowling, Hogg, the commentator, believes that Shaw’s technique is better suited for the number four or five spots.
Taking to Twitter on December 22, the Aussie replied to a user’s playing XI for India for the upcoming Boxing Day Test starting December 26 at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
Hogg tweeted: “Shaw has made a lot of runs in domestic cricket, so he has talent. I think India should look at him at 4 or 5 for the long term, where his technique will be better suited.”
Noteworthy, the 21-year-old also struggled during the tour games, scoring 40, 3, 0,19 against Australia A before the Day-Night Test in Adelaide- where India suffered a massive 8-wicket defeat.
Following his poor performance in the Test series opener in Adelaide, Shaw is likely to lose his place to his former Under-19 teammate Shubman Gill in the playing XI for the MCG Test. Gill was has been in a good nick, scoring 43 and 65 in the pink-ball warm-up match in Australia.
