AUS v IND 2020-21: Darren Lehmann says India could stage a comeback if "batsmen cope with the bounce"

India suffered a painful loss in the first Test after collapsing to their lowest-ever Test score.

The Indians, who were in ascendency at the halfway mark of the first Test, were dismissed for just 36 in the second innings, their lowest-ever score as Australia wreaked havoc with the ball and took a crucial 1-0 lead towards the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

"It will be hard now for them, but they've actually got some quality players if they can get on a roll," Lehmann, also hosts' ex head coach, told SA Sportsday.

The 50-year-old went on to say that the visitors have a potent attack up their sleeves and if their batsmen can also get their act together on bouncy Australian tracks, they'll be up and running again.

"They can certainly cause some trouble with the ball, it's just whether the batsmen can cope with the bounce. The MCG pitch will suit them a bit better because it's a bit flatter," he said.

"So we'll see if their batsmen can bounce back and make some runs, especially in the first innings. That's going to be the key for them."

The injury-hit tourists will also be without their premier batsman and regular skipper, Virat Kohli, for the rest of the series as he returns home on paternity leave.

In Kohli's absence, vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane will be leading the side from the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne, starting December 26.
