Sunil Gavaskar presenting ‘Sunny Green Cap’ to Ricky Ponting | TwitterThe cricketing rivalry between India and Australia is undoubtedly one of the biggest in the sporting world. It's become the battle of nerves whenever these two countries face each other on the cricket field.

Rivalry aside, there is also mutual respect and healthy camaraderie between the cricketers of both nations.

Former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting, who turned 46th on December 19, was presented with a 'Sunny Green' cap by Indian batting great Sunil Gavaskar.

"Gave him a Sunny Green Cap, he already has Baggy Green," Gavaskar told Mirror.

Notably, both the legends are commentating together in the ongoing India-Australia Test series.

Ahead of the series, Ponting had expressed his excitement to work with Gavaskar for the first time in his life.

Coming to the opening Test of the series, Team India suffered a humiliating 8-wicket defeat at the hands of Australia in Adelaide despite taking a 53-run first innings lead.

The visitors were 9 for 1 at the close of play on Day 2, with Prithvi Shaw being the only dismissed batsman. However, the Australian pace attack changed the course of the game in the first session on Day 3.

Josh Hazlewood (5 for 8) and Pat Cummins (4 for 21) were the chief destroyers with the ball as India recorded their lowest ever Test score of 36/9 (with Mohammad Shami retired hurt) in the second innings.

Chasing the target of 90 in the fourth innings, Australia got over the line quite comfortably thanks to Joe Burns’ half-century.
