AUS v IND 2020-21: Cricket fraternity reacts to Virat Kohli’s needless run out as India ends day one on 233/6

India won the toss and chose to bat first.

Virat Kohli's 74 was the highlight of India's innings | GettyThe Indian team found itself struggling at the end of the first day’s play in Adelaide Oval which is hosting the first Test of the four-match series between India and Australia, a day-night affair.

Indian captain Virat Kohli won the toss and chose to bat first. However, the move turned out to bite the team, as Mitchell Starc removed Prithvi Shaw for a duck on the second ball of the match, while Pat Cummins got rid of Mayank Agarwal for 17 later.

Cheteshwar Pujara (43) and Virat Kohli (74) added 68 runs for the third wicket, before Nathan Lyon got into the act, getting Pujara out after his 160-ball knock. Ajinkya Rahane (42) and Kohli tried to rebuild the innings and took India into the last session of the day’s play.

Unfortunately, Rahane fell for 42 to Starc, and Hanuma Vihari was dismissed by Josh Hazlewood for 16 runs, as India ended day one on 233/6. Starc with 2/49 was the pick of Australian bowlers.

However, it was the wicket of Virat Kohli that turned the tide in Australia’s favor and it came as a result of a run out after Ajinkya Rahane sent Kohli back after a misjudged call. Kohli had played a dogged inning of 74 in 180 balls with 8 fours and looked good for another hundred at the Adelaide Oval.

But it was not to be for the Indian captain who was run out for no fault of his own and the cricket fraternity discussed the dismissal and how this affected Team India, who could have ended up on a good score for a couple of wickets less, as the new ball was due in a short time when Kohli got out.
