Australian batsman Marcus Harris said he’s in the “right place” and “pretty ready” to take on the Indian pace attack in the upcoming four-match Test series starting December 17 at Adelaide Oval.

The left-hander, who has already faced India in the first tour game and is also currently playing for Australia A in the ongoing pink-ball tour game in Sydney, has been named in an injury-plagued Australia squad for the first Day-Night Test against India after Will Pucovski was ruled out of the Test series opener.

Pucovski joined David Warner on the sidelines after having suffered a concussion during a tour game against India A last week, resulting in Harris being drafted into the Australian Test squad given his outstanding form with the bat for Victoria this domestic season.

Harris has so far played 9 Tests and averages 25.06 with two half-centuries and is likely to play his 10th Test against India next week. He scored 35, 25, and 26 in three innings for Australia A against India in the tour games after hammering 355 runs at a fantastic average of 118.33 in two Sheffield Shield matches.

Harris told Fox Cricket: “There's obviously been a bit of stuff going on with everything in the last couple of weeks, so it's been good to have a hit against the Indian boys and another hit today.”

The 28-year-old added, “It feels like I'm in the right place at the right time, but it feels like I've been playing really well as well. It's been good, not to be the one that's spoken about too much. I knew coming here that if I went okay I'd put myself in a position to maybe play, the way that things have been going.”

He signed off by saying, “I obviously wasn't in the Test side last summer so I didn't have that distraction coming into this summer and I've just been focused on what I need to do, so that's been good. Now I've found myself where I am, and I feel pretty ready to go and I'm looking forward to it.”
