AUS v IND 2020-21: Steve Smith reveals "he had a bad dose of vertigo" before the 2nd ODI

He won two successive Man of the Match award for his batting show against India.

Australian star batsman Steve Smith is in spectacular form with the bat in the ongoing three-match One Day International (ODI) series at home, hammering two back-to-back tons to help the hosts secure a 2-0 series against India on Sunday (November 29) in Sydney.

After a brilliant hundred in the first ODI, Smith has yet again shown his class with the bat and played a quickfire 62-ball-100 knock to take Australia to a mammoth 389/4 in the second ODI, which they won by 51 runs to take a 2-0 lead in the three-match ODI series.

The third and final ODI is scheduled to be played on 2nd December (Wednesday) in Canberra followed by three T20Is from 4th of December. They will also four Tests as part of the World Championship.

After hitting a series-winning hundred and winning his second successive Man of the Match award for his superb batting performance against India, Smith has revealed that he wasn’t sure of playing in the second ODI since he suffered a “bad dose of vertigo” ahead of the series decider in Sydney.

Smith told cricket.com.au: “I didn't know I was playing today. I had a really bad dose of vertigo this morning and I was struggling until... I came down early to have a hit and a bit of a runaround.”

The right-hander further revealed that the team doctor Leigh Golding, who relieved him of the symptoms by performing the Epley maneuver which involves a series of head movements used to treat benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), a condition caused by a problem in the inner ear.

In the end, Smith was glad to be able to play another fine inning and help his team to win the game.

He signed off by saying, “The doctor, I think he performed six Epley maneuver on me this morning and got the crystals out of my ears and I was struggling for a bit. Just pleased to be able to get out there and play another good inning and help the team.”
