Nov 27, 2020 marks the 6th anniversary of Hughes' passing.

Both India and Australia teams will pay tribute to Phil Hughes on his 6th death anniversaryAhead of the start of the 3-match ODI series on Friday, November 27, 2020, players from Australia and India are likely to pay tribute to the late Phil Hughes, who passed away in 2014 after being hit on the head during a match.

It was on November 27 in 2014, when then 25-year-old Hughes, the youngest Australian to make twin centuries in one Test, was hit by a bouncer on the back of his head during a Sheffield Shield match in Sydney, Australia.

He collapsed to the ground unconscious and was rushed to the hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery and put into a medical coma. However, he lost the battle against time and passed away without regaining consciousness, just three days short of his 26th birthday at the time.

Hughes had played 25 test matches for Australia and 24 one-day internationals. India was touring Australia at the time and Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ravi Shastri, along with Team India officials attended the funeral of Hughes.

Marking the 6th anniversary of his passing, both Australia and India are expected to stand for 63 seconds of applause in Hughes’ memory, recognizing his final unbeaten score while the Aussies will wear black armbands featuring Phil Hughes’ initials.

India is touring down under for a two-month long tour which consists of three-ODIs followed by three-T20Is and then a four-match Test series.
