AUS v IND 2020-21: Adelaide Oval to feature upto 27,000 spectators for D/N Test, says report

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy will see return of Test match crowds in Australia amid COVID-19 pandemic.

The iconic venue will be 50% full for the marquee fixture | GettyThe historic D/N pink-ball affair between hosts Australia and India from December 17 will witness upto 27,000 spectators at the Adelaide Oval, 50% of the ground's total capacity.

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy will, therefore, be the first international series since March to have crowds attending the game. With the world struggling against the COVID-19 pandemic, cricket matches have been secured only behind closed doors within bio-secure arrangements.

"The Adelaide Oval is restricted to 50 percent capacity, with 27,000 tickets available for each day of the opening day-night Test," reported cricket.com.au

The much-anticipated fixture at the iconic venue will open the four-Test series and be India's first pink-ball outing away from home since playing their inaugural D/N Test last November versus Bangladesh in Kolkata.

It'll also be the only Test of the series that the world's best batsman, Virat Kohli, takes part in, as the India skipper returns home on paternity leave to be with his wife and Bollywood star, Anushka Sharma. The couple are set to have their first baby in January.

Not only the Adelaide Oval, venues in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane are also about to host some crowds for the Test matches.

The case of Brisbane being the most pleasent here, as it was Queensland government's unwavering stance on strict quarantine rules that had seen Cricket Australia (CA) move India's limited-overs fixtures as well as the first Test outside the pandemic-ravaged state.

"At present, the Victorian Government has approved 25,000 fans for each day of the Boxing Day Test across public, member and corporate tickets," the report states.

"With the improving COVID19 situation in the city, it is hoped more tickets may be able to be put on sale closer to the time, but this is yet to be confirmed."

"The SCG, which will host the traditional Pink Test from January 7 the third in the Vodafone Test Series is limited to 50 percent of total capacity, or 23,000 fans."

SCG, along with the Manuka Oval in Canberra, will also host the three ODIs and three T20Is that precede the Tests. The white-ball leg kickstarts on November 27.
