Speculations have been rife over the exact nature of Rohit Sharma's injury since he has been left out of the Indian squad for the full tour to Australia. 

The Indian limited-overs captain and opening batsman wasn't part of either the Test or the white-ball squads that were announced by the Sunil Joshi-led selection panel on Monday (October 26).

Adding to the confusion was the video clip shared by IPL franchise Mumbai Indians (MI) where Rohit was seen batting in the nets just hours after his absence from the list of names that the selection committee announced. 

And with no official statement from MI and the BCCI only mentioning that Rohit's progress will be monitored, prominent voices within Indian cricket, as well as the game's biggest stakeholders, the fans, have been left seeking transparency on the matter. 

Amidst uncertainty, India head coach Ravi Shastri spoke on the issue during an interaction with the Times Now. Shastri didn't talk of the details of the injury but hinted that the batsman may have pulled his calf muscle again, having been ruled out midway through the tour of New Zealand earlier this year because of it. 

"It's being handled by the people in charge of the medical part of it. We don't get involved in that. They have submitted a report to the selectors and they have gone about their business," said Shastri. 

"I have no say neither I am a part of the selection committee. All I know is the medical report which says he could be in danger of injuring himself again," he added.

There is a possibility, though, that Rohit could recover and be seen playing in the IPL 2020 again, which will also pave way for his return to the Indian squad. Even MI's stand-in captain Kieron Pollard on Saturday (October 31) provided a positive update on him. 

"Rohit is getting better and hopefully he will be back soon," he had said at the post-match presentation following the win over Delhi Capitals (DC).
