The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), on September 10, 2026, has named the replacement for injured Harshit Rana in the Indian squads for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Afghanistan and the Asian Games 2026 in Japan.

Harshit Rana, who had suffered a hamstring injury, has not recovered fully during his rehab at the BCCI CoE in Bengaluru. The BCCI revealed that Rana suffered another injury during the match simulations and has been ruled out of the Afghanistan T20Is and Asian Games.

“The fast bowler was progressing well during his rehab at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE). He sustained a rectus femoris strain while bowling during a match simulation on September 7 and has subsequently been ruled out,” the BCCI statement read.

As a result, BCCI has named Yash Thakur as a replacement for Harshit Rana in India’s squads for the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan and the 2026 Asian Games.

During India's July tour of Zimbabwe, the 27-year-old Vidarbha fast bowler made his T20I debut. He grabbed four wickets in two games. He has taken 81 wickets at an outstanding economy rate of 7.04 in 50 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy games.

Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah, Washington Sundar, and Nitish Kumar Reddy, who have been declared fit by the CoE, will be seen in action during the Afghanistan T20Is and Asian Games in Japan.
