Rohit Sharma was coached in his formative years by Dinesh Lad.
Rohit took over the captain from Virat Kohli in the 2021-22 season and since then India has been on top of the cricket world. India made it into the final of the World Test Championship and ICC World Cup while playing in the semi-final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. India has been unbeaten in Tests in India and played brilliantly overseas as well.
This IPL 2024 season will also be the first time in 10 years Rohit Sharma will not play as the Mumbai Indians captain. Rohit had won the IPL five times as MI captain but now will play under the captaincy of Hardik Pandya.

Meanwhile, his childhood coach Dinesh Lad recalled a lesser-known story about the Indian captain. Rohit was picked for the Mumbai Under-19 team under Lad's watch.
"Once Rohit and I saw a Mercedes car, he said, 'Sir, I will buy this car one day.' I told him, 'Are you mad? These are too expensive.' But told me: "Sir, I will buy it". His confidence was very high. Rohit knew he could reach that level back then," Lad said in an interview with SRG Sports.
