Shah Rukh Khan, Anushka Sharma, and other Bollywood stars react to BCCI’s equal pay announcement

Centrally contracted India Women's cricketers will get match fees equal to their men's counterparts.

The BCCI, on Thursday, via secretary Jay Shah announced that centrally contracted Indian women’s cricketers will now receive match fees equal to their male counterparts.

This meant Women's cricketers will also get INR 15 Lakhs per Test match, INR 6 lakhs per ODI match, and INR 3 lakhs per T20I match they play, which is the same as the men's cricketers.

Shah in a series of tweets said that the Indian cricket board is implementing a pay equity policy for its contracted women players.

"I’m pleased to announce BCCI’s first step towards tackling discrimination. We are implementing pay equity policy for our contracted BCCI Women cricketers. The match fee for both Men and Women Cricketers will be the same as we move into a new era of gender equality in Indian Cricket," Shah tweeted.

"The BCCI Women cricketers will be paid the same match fee as their male counterparts. Test (INR 15 lakhs), ODI (INR 6 lakhs), T20I (INR 3 lakhs). Pay equity was my commitment to our women cricketers and I thank the Apex Council for their support. Jai Hind," he added.

This announcement received unanimous praise from all quarters including Bollywood celebrities like IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) co-owner Shah Rukh Khan, and Anushka Sharma, who will be portraying Jhulan Goswami in her biopic 'Chakda Xpress’.
