Before the Cricket World Cup 2019, many British media reports had claimed that the sport was slipping off the radar for young people as it was not much played in England’s state schools and participation rates were falling sharply.

These reports were backed by the survey conducted by England and Wales Cricket Board that showed only five percent of British children aged 6 to 15 list cricket in their top two favorite sports. This figure struck fear in a lot of cricket lovers, but after England winning their maiden 50-over World Cup, a ray of hope appeared.

Thanks to England all-rounder Ben Stokes who was born in New Zealand as he scored a superb 135 not-out and pulled off a Ashes miracle becoming a national hero for the second time in just over a month as England leveled the five-match Test series at Headingley.

This amazing victory saw many football fans becoming cricket fans overnight. Ahead of the Premier League clash between Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle, cricket fever gripped the fans inside the Tottenham Hotspur stadium as England registered their first win of the series over rival Aussies.

Fans inside the stadium were seen glued to TV sets before kickoff and broke into wild celebrations as Stokes hit the winning runs.
