The incident happened in the first over of South Africa's innings.
Invited to bat first, the hosts piled up a massive 237/3 in their 20 overs on the back of half-centuries from Suryakumar Yadav (61 off 22 balls) and KL Rahul (57 off 28 balls). Virat Kohli (49* off 28 balls) and captain Rohit Sharma (43 off 37 balls) also made notable contributions with the bat.
In reply, the visitors got off to a poor start as skipper Temba Bavuma failed to score a run in the first over against Deepak Chahar.
In that over, Chahar was all over Bavuma as the latter failed to decipher his swinging deliveries. In fact, he bowled a stunning outswinger on the third ball of the opening over. The ball swung so much that wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant dived to his right to get a hand on it.
However, the ball popped out of his hand and hit skipper Rohit Sharma in the unprotected area at slip. Luckily, the blow wasn’t severe and it also left both Rohit and Pant in splits.
