India completed a clean sweep of the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan.
India completed a clean sweep of the three-match ODI series with a thumping nine-wicket win over Afghanistan in the final match at Chepauk on Saturday (June 20).
Riding on Prasidh Krishna’s maiden five-wicket haul, India bowled out Afghanistan for 218 in 44.2 overs. The lanky pacer took each of the first four wickets, reducing the visitors to 36/4.
Afghanistan fought back, thanks to Hashmatullah Shahidi’s first ODI hundred (102) and Azmatullah Omarzai’s half-century (50).
In reply, the hosts overhauled a modest 219-run target with 128 deliveries to spare. Yashasvi Jaiswal smashed an unbeaten century (110* off 86) and added 170 runs for the opening wicket with Rohit Sharma (79 off 69) to make the chase a mere formality.
It was the second ODI hundred of Jaiswal’s career, and the southpaw notched up the three-figure mark with a maximum off Mohammad Nabi in the 29th over. He also hit a winning six to seal the deal for India in the same over.
Overall, Jaiswal’s knock featured 14 fours and 3 sixes. However, the left-handed opener didn’t get the Player-of-the-Match award as Krishna pipped him to bag the honour.
