Bowlers are the true workhorses of the game of cricket. After all, you need to pick wickets in order to win a match and that’s what bowlers do. Earlier the true test of a bowler’s ability and stamina used to be the Test matches, the one true form of the game.

However, with changing times, the magicians with the red cherry had to change their game plans as well, as the newer formats like the one-day cricket and 20-over cricket were introduced and they had to adapt to these new conditions and since then, we have seen bowlers with multifaceted skills coming into the game.

Therefore, Team COC looks at five such bowlers in the current era, who have the skills and abilities to walk into any team in any of the formats.

Check out the 5 fast bowlers who can walk into any team in any format

MITCHELL STARC (AUS)

The left-arm pacer from Australia has already carved his name into the annals of record books for the Australia team, as he was the highest wicket-taker in two consecutive editions of the World Cup in 2015 and 2019, even winning the Player of the Tournament in 2015 edition.

Aaron Finch feels Jasprit Bumrah and Mitchell Starc are equally great in death overs

Starc has been amazing so far with 244 wickets in 57 Tests, 178 wickets in 91 ODIs and 43 scalps in 31 T20I matches. He has also proven himself in various T20 leagues around the world. The New South Wales bowler had also picked up a hat-trick in each innings in an FC match and the bowler has regained much of his form and speed, which was missing in recent times.

He has the ability to bowl at more than 145 clicks easily and in T20s, he has to bowl only four overs with breaks in between, making sure he keeps his top speed and hence has the whole bag of tricks to be successful in all formats.

JOFRA ARCHER (ENG)

Jofra Archer burst onto the international scene after some impressive stints in English county championship, the T20 Blast, the Big Bash League and the Indian Premier League. The T20 format was his stepping stone to international stardom and he didn’t let anyone down.

His performance in the finals of the 2019 World Cup left everyone amazed given with how easy he bowls at 150 kph with a smooth run-up and has the batting skills to become a genuinely talented all-rounder. He made his much-awaited Test debut in the Ashes 2019 and made an impact by giving Steve Smith a concussion.

He was amazing, to say the least in his short time in international level and given his experience at the top level only getting better, Archer is sure to walk into any team in any format, they might even welcome him with open arms if he continues to amaze the way he has.

KAGISO RABADA (SA)

Kagiso Rabada has blown away his detractors in the five years since his debut. The 24-year-old has been picking wickets at the rate of nauts in international cricket starting with a 6/16, including a hat-trick on his ODI debut. Since then, he has become South Africa’s most potent weapon in all three formats.

Poster-boy" Rabada is overburdened by South Africa, says Graeme Smith

The young speedster has picked up 197 wickets in just 43 Tests, 117 wickets in 75 ODIs and 30 wickets in 24 T20I matches. Rabada has even made a big name for himself in the Indian Premier League, playing for the Delhi Capitals team. Rabada has also shown amazing aggression in the Test circuit as well, unfortunately gaining demerit points as well.

However, he has shown enough skills and pace to be considered a future great and right now, is able to walk into any team in any of the formats just based on his skills in all the three formats.

PAT CUMMINS (AUS)

Pat Cummins has become the most valuable part of the Australian team ever since his successful return to the team in 2017, after five years out of the game due to a bad back. Cummins actually became the most expensive foreign player sold in the IPL auction history in the IPL 2020 auction.

Cummins has taken over as the lead strike bowler in Tests and ODIs for Australia, while also performing well in the T20Is whenever given a chance. The fast bowler has an impressive record to speak off with 284 wickets in all three formats for the Kangaroos.

The right-arm pacer recovered amazingly well from a career-threatening back injury and has come stronger in his second international stint. He has been just phenomenal as evident from his exploits against India at home in what was Australia’s first Test series loss at home to Virat Kohli’s men. But Cummins has the skills and abilities which make him an asset to any team in any format.

JASPRIT BUMRAH (IND)

Jasprit Bumrah has captivated the audience with his amazing bowling skills despite being completely unique with his action and run-up. The 26-year-old made his India debut in 2016 and since then has gone onto rule the cricket world, even reaching the no.1 spot in ICC ODI bowlers’ rankings.

Bumrah has even proved his critics wrong when he made a successful debut in Test cricket picking five-wicket hauls in South Africa, England, Australia, and the West Indies. He also has a Test hat-trick to his name as well and Bumrah has become Virat Kohli’s biggest asset in the team and can be called upon to pick wickets at whim.

He has 68 Test wickets in 14 matches, 104 ODI wickets, and 59 T20I scalps to his name in his young career and has helped Mumbai Indians in winning three IPL titles making his debut in 2013 for the Rohit Sharma led franchise. Bumrah is someone who has been praised by his peers and rivals and almost every team will want him in a heartbeat in any formats possible.
