KL Rahul remained unbeaten on 34 with Kohli making 103*.
India captain Rohit Sharma made an interesting revelation from their recent ICC World Cup 2023 match against Bangladesh. This match was played on October 19, 2023, in Pune and saw Men in Blue winning by 7 wickets.
Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto won the toss and opted to bat first. They managed to post 256/8 with Tanzid Hasan and Litton Das scoring fifties. In reply, Virat Kohli led the way with 103*, and Shubman Gill (53) and Rohit Sharma (48) contributed as India won the match with 51 balls to spare.
After the match, Shubman Gill was interviewing players for BCCI TV and caught hold of captain Rohit Sharma. The 24-year-old asked his skipper why they deviated from the original plan of not sending Shardul into bat instead of Rahul.
Rohit said that he had told Shardul that he would be batting next just before Shreyas Iyer got out. By the time the pacer got ready and came down, it was a bit too late and Rahul had to go in.
"I told Shardul to get ready on the ball that Shreyas Iyer got out. I told him 'Shardul, you will be in next.' But Shreyas got out on that delivery and by the time Shardul came down getting ready, Rahul had gone into bat,” Rohit said on BCCI TV.
Gill said that fans were waiting to see Shardul bat, to which Rohit had a hilarious response.
"They will get the chance. He is a big match player," said Rohit.
