MI parted ways with Shane Bond after nine years.
The upcoming 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) will see the re-union of Sri Lanka bowling legend Lasith Malinga and one of the IPL's most loved franchises, the Mumbai Indians (MI).
Actually, on Friday, October 20, the Mumbai Indians (MI) revealed that Lasith Malinga was signed on as their new bowling coach for the upcoming IPL 2024. The legendary Sri Lankan fast bowler replaced former New Zealand pacer Shane Bond.
Malinga will now work with with MI head coach Mark Boucher and batting coach Kieron Pollard for the upcoming IPL 2024. Notably, MI and Malinga are not new to each other, as he already holds the position of bowling coach for MI New York in Major League Cricket and MI Cape Town in SA20.

Apart from this, Malinga spent close to 12 years with MI in the IPL since 2008—11 years as a player, one year in the IPL 2018 as the team's bowling mentor. He was a part of seven trophy wins with the franchise, including four IPL, two CLT20, and one MLC as bowling coach.
Malinga stated in an MI release, “It is truly an honor for me to be appointed the bowling coach of the Mumbai Indians and my journey in the #OneFamily continues, following MI New York and MI Cape Town.”
He added, “I am looking forward to working closely with Mark, Polly, Rohit and the rest of the team, especially the bowling unit, whose approach I loved last season, and the young MI talent that has the potential to excel, backed by the passionate MI Paltan.”
Notably, Malinga was part of Rajasthan Royals’ coaching staff in the last IPL season.
