Former Indian cricketer-turned-commentator Gautam Gambhir was not happy with Pakistan skipper Babar Azam’s batting approach, especially after the Men in Green suffered an embarrassing defeat of seven wickets against India at the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

Gambhir believes that Babar must play an attacking brand of cricket and take responsibility with the bat to win matches for Pakistan, as nobody remembers individual milestones.

The 2011 World Cup winner further suggested that Babar should change his personality, game, and mindset if he wants to impress with the bat in the ongoing Cricket World Cup 2023.

Gautam Gambhir told Sportskeeda: “Pakistan has had a history of attacking batters - Shahid Afridi, Imran Nazir, Saeed Anwar, and Aamer Sohail. In the present top three, everyone bats in a similar mode. If someone has to take responsibility, it has to be their captain, who bats at No. 3. There is no point looking at stats. ”

He added, “You may become Pakistan’s leading run-getter, but the legacy is created by winning tournaments, not individual records. Wasim Akram took three wickets in the 1992 World Cup final. He did not pick up a five-fer, but everybody talks about it because they won the World Cup. Nobody talks about Mahela Jayawardene’s hundred in the 2011 final. Everyone remembers that India won the match.”

Notably, Pakistan will next take on Australia in the CWC 2023 on October 20 in Bengaluru.
