India is facing off against Australia in their ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 opener at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on October 8, Sunday. This is a battle between the hosts and the five-time World Cup winners.

The two sides have faced off against each other 12 times in Cricket World Cup tournaments before this encounter and Australia holds the edge over India with a 8-4 lead. However, India is coming off a 2-1 ODI series win over Australia before the World Cup began.

Australia captain Pat Cummins won the toss and chose to bat first on the Chennai pitch which is traditionally spin friendly.

Australia went in with one proper spinner in Adam Zampa and all-rounder Glenn Maxwell in their playing XI. They are playing three pacers in Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and captain Pat Cummins himself.

This match is important for India as a win over Australia will give them a perfect start to their World Cup 2023 campaign. They also received best wishes from the Indian cricket fraternity on social media platform X.
