Stokes played a legendary knock to help England beat Australia by one wicket in Leeds.
Ben Stokes' breathtaking 135 may have taken England home when a defeat seemed imminent in the third Ashes Test at Headingley but the mainstay all-rounder himself said his team has made a conscious effort to forget the unlikely victory and focus on the next game in Manchester.
"We have to get the point across that we have forgotten about Headingley," Stokes told BBC about the outcome that helped three lions level the five-match series against Australia.
"That is a message we have been drilling into everyone in the squad. People will talk about it and it will come up in interviews, but it will count for nothing if we don't win these Ashes."
A legendary knock such as that would enhance expectations from the man. However, Stokes said he feels no pressure of reproducing performances like the last one for England.
"I just go out there and try to do what I am paid to do, which is score runs and take wickets."
"I obviously understand and appreciate what Headingley was, how special that game was, but I still look at it like I was going out there to do my job," added the England vice-captain.
Stokes is very happy to have contributed his bit now twice to English cricket's bigger goal of increasing the popularity of the sport in the country.
He was also the "Player-of-the-Match" in the World Cup final earlier this summer as England defeated New Zealand on better boundary count after a thrilling super-over tie at Lord's.
"This summer has made cricket bigger than I ever remember it to be and the Headingley Test has made cricket go even higher than it was after the World Cup."
"You see even tiny little things, like the number of people who wait at the hotel for autographs, has gone through the roof. That has something to do with what we have managed to achieve this summer so far," Stokes concluded.
