India lifted the T20 World Cup 2026 trophy by beating New Zealand in the final.
The 2026 edition of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup concluded on Sunday (March 8), with India clinching the title by beating New Zealand in the final at Ahmedabad.
A day later, the ICC announced its 'Team of the Tournament' for the T20 World Cup, featuring as many as four Indian players.
Player-of-the-Tournament Sanju Samson leads the list, having amassed 321 runs from just five innings. The wicketkeeper-batter wasn’t part of India’s XI at the start of the competition but shone with Player-of-the-Match exploits against the West Indies and England before making the highest individual score in a Men’s T20 World Cup final with 89 against New Zealand.
Samson is joined by teammates Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah as India’s title defence on home soil is recognised.
Kishan ended the showpiece event as the fourth-highest run-getter, piling up 317 runs in nine innings at an incredible strike rate of 193.29 with three half-centuries. He produced a masterful 77 as an opener against Pakistan before adjusting to number three with important knocks against England and New Zealand, including a half-century in the final.
Pandya is the third Indian player included, with the all-rounder recognised for his contribution with bat and ball. He slammed two half-centuries with the bat and produced devastating spells when it mattered, including 52 off 28 against Namibia, while he also took nine wickets in all.
Bumrah finished as the tournament’s joint-leading wicket taker, with 14 scalps from eight outings. The ace pacer returned with figures of 4/15 in the final and posted an economy of 6.21 throughout the tournament.
The team of the tournament was picked by a selection panel comprising West Indies great Ian Bishop, former England captain Eion Morgan, coach-turned-commentator Natalie Germanos, ICC representative Gaurav Saxena and senior Sri Lankan sports journalist Rex Clementine.
Pakistan opener Sahibzada Farhan also made the cut, having finished as the tournament's top run-scorer with an aggregate of 383 at an average of 76.60. His performance was headlined by a couple of centuries against Sri Lanka and Namibia.
Aiden Markram and Lungi Ngidi are the two South Africans included in the side. While the Proteas captain scored 286 with three half-centuries as his side reached the semi-finals, Ngidi picked up 12 wickets at an average of 15.58.
England’s Will Jacks made it to the middle order on the back of his stunning exploits as an all-rounder as his side reached the semifinal. Jacks regularly produced crucial performances to guide England home, including a crucial unbeaten 32 off 18 balls and two for 23 against New Zealand that earned him one of four Player of the Match awards. Teammate Adil Rashid joins him in the side, after the leg-spinner bagged 13 wickets at 14.15.
West Indies’ Jason Holder earned his place in the side thanks to strong performances with bat and ball. Holder took three wickets against Scotland and four against Nepal before stepping up with the bat in the Super Eights.
The team is rounded out by Zimbabwe’s Blessing Muzarabani, who was key to his side’s stunning group stage performances. Muzarabani took four for 17 as Zimbabwe beat Australia and finished the group stage with nine wickets.
The team’s 12th player is Shadley van Schalkwyk, who took 13 wickets for the USA at a rate of just 6.84 and economy of 6.80.
