Prithvi Shaw's last appearance for India was in July 2021.
While Shaw was part of Mumbai's Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy-winning campaign, he failed to produce any noteworthy performance. The opening batter managed to amass only 197 runs in 9 matches with the best score of 49.
Adding to his woes, the 25-year-old went unsold in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction last November.
Meanwhile, Dinesh Lad, Rohit Sharma's childhood coach, has attributed Prithvi Shaw's career decline to poor choices, despite his immense talent since childhood and U-19 World Cup victory.
"I have seen Prithvi since his childhood, from the time he was 10 years old," Lad said on a podcast with Gaurav Mangalani.
"He was a highly talented player. But as I have said, everyone’s journey is individual, and I don’t know what exactly happened with him.
"Still, Prithvi Shaw was a very talented cricketer. Unfortunately, he went down the wrong path and ended up spoiling his cricket."
While Dineh Lad rued Shaw's wasted potential, he believes the future of Indian cricket is in safe hands, emphasizing the promising skills of young batters like Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Ayush Mhatre.
“Even now, I feel there should be a batter like him, the way he used to bat. Although right now we have some truly outstanding batters," Lad stated.
"For example, the way Vaibhav Suryavanshi is batting, and the way Ayush Mhatre is batting — these are future cricketers in the making. They are getting ready in line. Indian cricket is almost at the top,” he remarked.
It is worth mentioning here that Prithvi Shaw announced his arrival to international cricket with a century on Test debut. However, he failed to build on it and also went downhill fitness-wise.
As a result, the Mumbaikar fell behind in the packing order. His last appearance for India was in July 2021.
