Prithi Shaw played 32 FC matches and 29 List A games for Mumbai.
On Monday (June 23) evening, the MCA said it granted the NOC to Prithvi Shaw. Prithvi Shaw had applied for a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) earlier in the day.
“The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) would like to inform that cricketer Prithvi Shaw had formally requested a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to represent another state as a professional player in the upcoming domestic season. After due consideration, the MCA has granted the NOC,” the MCA said in a statement.
“Prithvi Shaw has been an exceptional talent and has contributed significantly to Mumbai cricket. We respect his decision and wish him the very best in his future endeavours,” MCA secretary Abhay Hadap said.
The 25-year-old out-of-favor India opener told the MCA that he was now weighing his options after receiving offers from three to four states.
"At this juncture of my career, I have been presented with a promising opportunity to play professional cricket under another State Association, which I believe will further contribute to the growth and development as a cricketer. In light of this, I kindly request you to issue me a No Objection Certificate (NOC) that will enable me to officially represent the new state association in the upcoming domestic season," Shaw said in his letter to the MCA, as per Cricbuzz.
Shaw, who is widely considered a gifted young player, made his debut in international cricket in 2018 as a teenager and scored a century. But since then, he hasn't fulfilled the promise he had shown in his early years.
Before faltering in 2021, Shaw played in just five Test matches, six ODIs, and one T20 International for India. He was cut from the Mumbai Ranji squad last year due to fitness concerns. Due to his failure to sell at the auction, he was also unable to secure an IPL contract.
"Please be assured that this decision has been made after careful consideration, and with utmost respect for the MCA. I remain ever grateful to the association for the guidance and platform provided over the years," Shaw wrote in his letter to the MCA.
Shaw scored 2,648 runs at an average of 49.03 in 32 first-class games for Mumbai, including seven hundreds and ten half-centuries. Additionally, he has played in 29 List A games for the state team.
