Ramiz Raja, chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), revealed to the national assembly's standing committee on sports that he drives a bulletproof car citing security threats.

Ramiz said he is "not a big financial burden" on the board as the former Pakistan captain, among other things, also takes care of his medical expenses.

"Ramiz did tell the committee members at one stage that he only used the bulletproof vehicle of the board because of a security threat otherwise he avoided taking any perks from the PCB," PTI quoted a source, who was present at the meeting, as saying.

The source also claimed that none of the national assembly committee members questioned the chairman about what would happen to his position as board chairman after the change in government or why he had not considered quitting like others before he had done whenever a government changed.

"Ramiz made it clear to the committee members in the two-hour-long session that he only utilized the daily allowances, hotel, and travel expenses allowed to the chairman under service rules," he said.

Earlier, Ramiz had claimed that due to security risks, his predecessors as the board chief also drove in bulletproof vehicles.

According to the source, when the committee members questioned Raja, who had appeared in front of any parliamentary committee for the first time, about why the board had not provided the auditor general's report on annual spending, Raja responded that it was a government document and that they could access it whenever they wanted.

According to the source, Ramiz stated that the AG's office has been auditing the board's accounts since 2012–2013.

"But the members told him to submit the AG's report himself at the next meeting." the source added.

According to the source, the committee members questioned Ramiz about the team's performance, upcoming commitments, the PSL, and international teams' tours.

"Most of the members expressed satisfaction with the work done by the board since Ramiz took charge last September and also lauded the team's performances," the source revealed further.
