It was a clash of the finalists of the 2020 ICC Under-19 World Cup, as defending champions Bangladesh took on runners-up India in the quarter-final of the 2022 edition at North Sound, Antigua on Saturday (January 29).
Yash Dhull, leading India again after recovering from COVID-19, won an important toss and inserted Bangladesh in on a sticky pitch which had something in it for the bowlers up front. India had a near full-strength side on the park after most of the infected players tested negative for the virus.
Left-arm swing bowler Ravi Kumar exploited the conditions to perfection as he picked up 3/14 in his 7 overs to help India bowl out Bangladesh for 111 in 37.1 overs. Vicky Ostwal impressed again as he took 2/25 in his 9 overs.
Bangladesh's total would have been lot lesser after they were reduced to 56/7 but Meherob Hasan scored 30 in a 8th wicket stand of 50 with Ashiqur Zaman.
India's chase received a jolt when inform opener Harnoor Singh was dismissed for a duck, but Angkrish Raghuvanshi (44) and Shaik Rasheed (26) stabilized the innings to 70/1, before Ripon Mondol (4/31) triggered a mini-collapse which saw India lose 4 wickets for 27 runs, though there was never really a danger to the team's chances.
Captain Dhull remained unbeaten on 20 as Kaushal Tambe (11*) hit the winning runs to set up a date for the 4-time champions with Australia on February 2.
