Monty Panesar also talked about the upcoming Test series between England and India.
Former England spinner Monty Panesar feels that Rohit Sharma should be made captain of the India T20I team. This comes after Team India’s loss against New Zealand in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final has raised questions over Virat Kohli’s captaincy.
India under Kohli's captaincy went down to lose the 2017 Champions Trophy final and then the 2019 World Cup semi-final. With two T20 World Cups ahead, many have suggested that India should opt for the captain who could utilize the resources optimally.

Monty Panesar shared the viewpoint and said that the Indian team's T20I captaincy should be handed over to Rohit Sharma as he has done well for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League(IPL).
He added that Virat Kohli would be under pressure after losing the WTC final and if India loses the Test series against England and then T20 World Cup there are chances that he would be stripped of the captaincy.
“Well I think T20 captaincy probably should be given to Rohit Sharma, he does really well for Mumbai Indians. You know Virat Kohli is under pressure here because if his team doesn’t perform in the five-match series against England and loses ICC T20 World Cup 2021 then you know what will happen,” Monty Panesar told CricBouncer.
While talking about the upcoming Test series between England and India, Monty Panesar opined that beating Joe Root-led side would be less threatening than New Zealand for India as the home side’s top-order isn’t that strong.
“I think against England, it will be less threatening because they don’t have like the Kyle Jamieson, so plus England’s top-order batting isn’t as strong. So, I think India probably will always be in the game,” he said.
The five-match Test series between England and India will begin from 4th August at Trent Bridge.
