Virat Kohli took over from MS Dhoni in 2014 in Tests and 2017 in all formats.
Under Kohli’s leadership, India won its maiden Test series against Australia in Australia, while they won their maiden ODI series in South Africa as well. New Zealand got 5-0 whitewashed in T20Is with Kohli leading the way and he is entrusted with the leadership for the foreseeable future.
However, commentator Aakash Chopra has found a possible successor for Kohli in KL Rahul, who will be captaining the KXIP side in the upcoming IPL 2020.
“I have hope that his captaincy will be good. Actually, we will get an idea of his captaincy, how he runs the game, what strategies he uses. If we see Kohli and Rohit, they are of the same age bracket and at one time you may feel that they are not captaincy material anymore,” Chopra said while responding to fan questions in a video shared on his Facebook page.

Rohit Sharma is India’s white-ball vice-captain and usually leads the team in Kohli’s absence. He also has seen huge success as skipper, winning the 2018 Asia Cup and the Nidahas Trophy simultaneously apart from other bilateral series victories.
Chopra feels Rahul, 28, might be the man to lead India past Kohli's captaincy, with the IPL certain to test his leadership skills.
“As they say, a time comes when you have to pass on the baton as MS Dhoni did to Kohli and Kohli will also have to do to someone at some point. When he does that, it is possible that Rahul will be next in line,” Chopra said.
“So, this IPL will show us how KL Rahul will be like a captain but I feel, the manner in which I have seen him play and his temperament, I feel he will be a good captain,” Chopra signed off.
