Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar and Argentine footballer Lionel Messi are the two legends of their respective sport the world has ever seen and veteran cricketer Suresh Raina has found some similarities between the two of the greatest sporting icons.

While Tendulkar, who was awarded Laureus Award earlier this February, is regarded as one of the greatest batsmen the cricket has ever seen, Messi is also hailed as one of the best to have graced the game of football having won the Ballon d’Or award for the record sixth-time last year.

Well, both Tendulkar and Messi have their own legacy in their respective profession, but they are synonymous with number 10 jersey on the field.

Recently, in a live chat with Khaleej Times on Facebook, Raina revealed that he is a big fan of the Barcelona talisman and further went on to compare Tendulkar with Messi, saying both greats have been generous to people around them while remaining humble despite achieving staggering success.

Raina said on Facebook, “I am a big fan of Messi. He is so down to earth, Both Sachin and Messi are very good when it comes to taking care of people around them because in sports you need to be really humble. You may be the number one player in the world, but your legacy is very important, You need to show gratitude to everyone.”

The out-of-favor Indian batsman has further recalled India’s 2011 World Cup triumph under MS Dhoni when Tendulkar mentored the Indian team like the team’s second coach.

Raina signed off by saying, “With Sachin, it’s always about his calmness. It was because of Sachin that we won the World Cup. He was the guy who made everyone in the team believe that we can do that, He was like the second coach in the team,”
