Rohit adviced people to stay inside their homes and follow the lock down protocol.
The COVID-19 has claimed more than 75 lives in India with over 3,000 positive cases, while the world has seen over 1,210,000 cases with over 65,000 lives lost. PM Modi put India in lockdown on March 24 and since then only essential services have been operational with railways, airways, and roadways closed for common people.
The Indian PM had asked the nation to come out to their balconies, switching off the lights in their homes at 9 pm on April 5 for nine minutes to show solidarity with medical staff, and essential workers who are working in dangerous conditions and bring some positivity in the gloomy circumstances.
The Indian cricket fraternity, along with all of India participated with enthusiasm in this initiative and shared images of lighting candles and diyas at their homes and switching off lights for nine minutes.
Even India’s white-ball vice-captain Rohit Sharma participated in the same, but he had wise advice for people out there, who were bursting crackers and celebrating on roads. “Stay indoors India, don’t go out on the streets celebrating. World Cup is still some time away,” Rohit tweeted.
The lock-down is expected to be lifted after April 14, but in phases in order to avoid a rush of a crowd on roads and public places.
