Vaibhav Sooryavanshi won the Player of the Series in Zimbabwe T20i series.
Sooryavanshi, who had struck his maiden T20I fifty in the first game, in the third game, managed 81 in 49 balls with 8 fours and 4 sixes. He helped India make 192/5 in 20 overs. Zimbabwe managed only 157/7 in the chase, losing the game by 35 runs and the series as well.
Sooryavanshi is one of India's most promising new batting stars because of his daring strokeplay and clean ball-striking.
Wasim Jaffer, a former India opener, feels that asking Sooryavanshi to alter his natural style would rob him of what makes him unique.
Jaffer emphasized that the left-hander's natural attacking style is the main factor contributing to his success, even though he acknowledged that everyone would want to see the young player score more hundreds.
“Of course, we all want him to score big hundreds, but somehow that's not his style. He keeps playing his shots and goes for the big hits, and that's also the reason behind his success. It's really nice to see that the pressure of the scoreboard or individual milestones doesn't get into his head. Even today, he played some excellent shots, but unfortunately, the catch that dismissed him was absolutely brilliant," Jaffer said on his YouTube channel.
Jaffer went on to highlight Sooryavanshi's achievements in the IPL 2026 playoffs to demonstrate that the 15-year-old is more concerned with establishing an impression with his brave batting than he is with reaching milestones.
“He plays absolutely fearless cricket. We saw him in the IPL knockouts as well, where he missed out on two centuries after getting into the 90s. He could have easily played a few more balls and taken singles, but that's just not his nature. That's not how he plays the game, and that's something to like about him," he added.
Jaffer added that Sooryavanshi’s scoring runs were India's greatest asset during the Zimbabwe trip. With two half-centuries, Sooryavanshi fulfilled the team management's faith in him at such a young age.
“He (Vaibhav Sooryavanshi) played two outstanding innings, and even today it looked like he might go on to score his maiden hundred. He narrowly missed out on that first century, but he has produced two really good knocks in this series. One of the biggest positives has been him scoring runs. We were already expecting Vaibhav to perform in international cricket, but I think these two innings will boost his confidence even further. Going forward, I feel he'll play with a lot less pressure, and he has been a success story," he concluded.
India's next T20I assignment will be in the 2026 Asian Games in Japan.
