India had refused to tour Bangladesh after they pulled out of T20 WC 2026 after Mustafizur IPL episode.
The strained relationship between the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to thaw as a report has suggested that both boards are working hard on a schedule for India’s tour to Bangladesh this year in September.
As per Times of India, BCCI is set to push back the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan to be held in Delhi to clear a window for a white-ball series in Bangladesh. The Indian government will ultimately approve the series, but the boards want to make sure everything is prepared for that time.
Due to political issues, India declined to travel to Bangladesh last year. After Mustafizur Rahman was removed from the IPL 2026 in January, Bangladesh forfeited their spot in the T20 World Cup in India.
According to the Times of India, the BCB has kept all of its venues open starting on September 1st because it is suggesting a few combinations that the BCCI can select based on convenience. India's Test tour of Sri Lanka is scheduled to conclude on August 27.
A two-week opening in September might become available if the series against Afghanistan is postponed. The Afghanistan Cricket Board would host the series, which was set to begin on September 13.
“BCB is also fine with the idea of holding all matches at one venue. They ideally prefer three T20Is at one venue and three ODIs in another. Dhaka and Chattogram are the leading venues. Playing just one format was a possibility too. The two boards held discussions on the sidelines of the recent ICC meet in London. India’s commitment to Afghanistan is a hurdle that was discussed. But the tour is subject to government approval,” a BCCI source told TOI.
Although the BCCI had notified the selectors about the Afghanistan series, the official announcement that Afghanistan would host India in Delhi was postponed. Preparations for that series have reportedly been postponed.
