The IPL 2022 is slowly nearing the end of its league stage and we have seen some amazing performances in the 65 matches that have been played. Two champion teams- Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI) have been eliminated from the race of playoffs.

Meanwhile, the two new franchises, Gujarat Titans (GT) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are sitting in the top half of the points table, with GT becoming the first team to qualify for the playoffs and will end in the top two positions, playing in the first qualifier.

IND v SA 2022: Rohit, Pant, Bumrah, Rahul to be rested; Dhawan and Pandya in contention to lead Team India

There have been many players who have impressed a lot in the IPL 2022 and with the BCCI aiming to rest all the first-choice Indian players for the South Africa T20I series at home, in order to give them rest ahead of the England tour, there have been speculations that two different Indian teams will be seen in action.

Therefore, Team COC takes a look at the five such performers in the IPL 2022 who may get a callup to the Indian team for the five-match T20I series at home against South Africa.

Check them out here:

ARSHDEEP SINGH

Arshdeep Singh has been the go-to bowler for Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain Mayank Agarwal in death overs as he has an economy of 7.82 in 13 matches with 10 wickets to his name including the best of 3/37.

IPL 2022: “He is young, confident, accurate and is a special player”- Irfan Pathan praises Arshdeep Singh

He has been a consistent performer for PBKS, picking 18 wickets in 12 matches for them in IPL 2021 including a fifer, and hence was retained by the franchise ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction and he has proven himself valuable once more.

His ability to bowl variations at the death against the biggest of hitters and being a left-arm pacer gives him an edge over others and probably may earn his maiden India call-up.

RAHUL TRIPATHI

Rahul Tripathi has been a silent performer in the IPL for some years now starting from IPL 2017 season when he scored 391 runs in 14 matches for Rising Pune Supergiant. He then came back strongly for KKR in IPL 2021, scoring 397 runs at a strike rate of 140.28, despite batting out of position as a finisher.

Even in the IPL 2022, he has been amazing for SRH, scoring 393 runs in 13 matches with 3 fifties to his name at a strike rate of 161.73 and has hit 19 sixes and 39 fours to his name.

Tripathi has been doing well in domestic cricket as well and with his brilliant outing for SRH in IPL 2022, the time has come for him to realize his dream of playing for India when South Africa tours for five T20Is.

RAHUL TEWATIA

Rahul Tewatia was a revelation as a finisher for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2020, and 2021 and has continued his form now for the Gujarat Titans (GT) in IPL 2022. He has 215 runs to his name at a strike rate of 149.31 and his best performance was against PBKS when he hit two sixes off the last two balls when 12 runs were needed to win.

IPL 2022: "I can't say that I stay cool during chases”, says Rahul Tewatia after powering GT to victory over RCB

Though he has not been called to bowl a lot in IPL 2022, he can definitely bowl some decent leg-spin as well, making him a huge attraction in the Indian team for the South Africa T20Is as they look for a finisher and an all-rounder.

UMRAN MALIK

Speed merchant Umran Malik had impressed the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in IPL 2021 so much, that they decided to retain him before the IPL 2022 auction and he has repaid the faith brilliantly.

Not only has he bowled extremely fast, but he has also picked wickets as well, including a fifer against GT and a four-wicket haul in a single over.

He has 21 wickets in 13 matches though at an expensive economy of 8.94. However, he has also bowled the fastest ball in IPL 2022, at 157 kph, and has been constantly bowling at over 150 clicks.

Many experts have backed his selection for the Indian team and with South Africa visiting for 5 T20Is, his India call-up is imminent.

This will give him enough exposure at the international level to prepare him for a possible outing at the T20 World Cup 2022 which will be played at the bouncy pitches in Australia.

DINESH KARTHIK

Dinesh Karthik has been around in IPL since its inception in 2008 when he turned out for then Delhi Daredevils (now Capitals). Since then he has played for many different sides in the tournament, but recently, has become of the most devastating finishers in the ongoing IPL 2022.

Playing for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Karthik said that he was told that he will be the finisher for the team after AB de Villiers decided to retire from the game. And he has delivered 285 runs in 13 matches with a strike rate of 192.57 and one fifty to his name. He has hit 21 sixes and 22 fours for RCB.

IPL 2022: "He is fit and the hunger is still there" Ravi Shastri heaps praise on Dinesh Karthik

Karthik himself has said that he wants to win the T20 World Cup for India in 2022 and the BCCI selectors will not be wrong to include him in the Indian team that will play South Africa in five T20I matches, as they need someone of his experience and caliber to guide the possible new faces against the Proteas.
