MI has not been able to win a single match in 8 outings in IPL 2022.
The five-time IPL champions cannot buy a win this season and have failed to either defend a total or chase one. One of the major things that have caused them, as per experts, is that they erred in their strategy in the IPL 2022 mega auction.
MI spent INR 15.25 crores on buying back Ishan Kishan and then spent 8 crores more on getting Jofra Archer, who wasn’t even participating in the IPL 2022 tournament due to his injury rehab. They had retained Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Kieron Pollard, and Jasprit Bumrah ahead of the auction.
While Ishan Kishan started well with scores of 81 and 54 but has since then failed to get going, and on the other hand, Rohit Sharma has failed with the bat totally. Only Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma have been able to make runs and save face for the MI team.
Bowling-wise, Jasprit Bumrah has been blowing hot and cold with no support from the other end. The absence of an experienced spinner has also hurt MI with other bowlers like Tymal Mills, Jaydev Unadkat, and others not being consistent enough.

However, despite 8 losses in 8 matches, MI fans have kept on cheering the team and as a thank you, MI captain Rohit Sharma penned a heartfelt note for the fans on social media.
He wrote: “We haven’t put our best foot forward in this tournament but that happens, many sporting giants have gone through this phase but I love this team and it’s environment. Also want to appreciate our well wishers who’ve shown faith and undying loyalty to this team so far ????@mipaltan”
MI will next face off against RR on April 30 at the DY Patil Stadium.
