The Delhi Capitals (DC) versus defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) match-up turned out to be a great match for the newly appointed DC skipper Rishabh Pant as his side registered the third win of this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL 2021).

MI skipper Rohit Sharma on the other hand did not have such a great game apart from when he was batting as he scored a nice 44 off 30 balls while the batting unit lost its way in the middle and could only muster 137 runs in their 20 overs.

Not only did the Mumbai-based franchise lose the match by 6 wickets, but also the captain Rohit was fined INR 12 lakhs for maintaining a slow over-rate in the match.

According to the IPL guidelines, the captain of the team that fails to maintain the over-rate is fined INR 12 lakhs for the first time.

On the second instance during the season, the fine for the captain is doubled (INR 24 lakh) while every other member of the playing XI is fined 25 percent of the match fees or Rs 6 lakh, whichever is lesser.

If the offense is committed for the third time, the captain has to pay a fee of INR 30 lakh and serve a one-match ban, while the rest of the members of the playing XI are charged with a fine of Rs 12 lakh or 50 percent of match fee, whichever is lesser.

After losing to DC, the five-time champions will be taking on KL Rahul’s Punjab Kings (PBKS) on 23 April at the same venue in Chennai.
