IPL 2020: 5 exciting young Indian players to watch out for in upcoming auction

The IPL 2020 auction will take place in Kolkata on December 19.

Indian Premier League trophy has an inscription in Sanskrit which translates to “Where talent meets opportunity”. This is true as the past editions of the tournament have seen many young players make a name for themselves. Manish Pandey was 19 when he scored the first century by an Indian in the league in 2009.

Similarly, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, and many more talents have been unearthed by various franchises in the past seasons and Team COC has picked five such exciting young talents who might be the flavor of the IPL auction on December 19, 2019, in Kolkata.

Virat Singh

Jharkhand’s Virat Singh is one of the best young talents who is just 21-years-old. He has played 23 FC matches, amassing 965 runs with two centuries and has 1249 runs in 40 List A games as well with one ton. In 56 T20 matches, he has 1552 runs with 10 fifties to his name and the best score of 81 at a strike rate of 124.45.

In the recently concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he made 343 runs in 10 innings at a strike rate of 142.32 with three fifties and a best score of 76*. He is truly seen as a prodigy and the left-hander has been doing everything correctly to warrant a bid during the upcoming auction.

 

R Sai Kishore

Tamil Nadu’s R Sai Kishore picked 20 wickets in 12 matches in the Syed Mushtaq Ali 2019 trophy with the best bowling figure of 4/6 at an average of 10.40 and economy of 4.63. Full name Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore, the 23-year-old made his debut in 2017 and has played 9 FC matches and has 25 wickets at an average of 29.56.

In 20 List A matches, he has 42 wickets and in 22 T20 matches, he has scalped 25 wickets so far. All of the IPL franchises are looking out for Indian spinners and we have seen the likes of Kuldeep Yadav, Rahul Chahar, Mayank Markande and others doing well in the tournament and this time R Sai Kishore might get a bid given his exciting talent.   

 

Tushar Deshpande

24-year-old right-arm fast bowler Tushar Deshpande has been impressing everyone on Indian domestic circuit with his talent playing for Mumbai. Having made his debut in 2016, Deshpande has played 13 FC matches, 19 List A games, and 20 T20s.

He has a total of 90 wickets in these matches and has been able to keep his place in the team despite the likes of Shivam Dube, Shardul Thakur being considered main picks. He has also shown his potential in Mumbai T20 League and will be hoping to impress on the bigger stage of the IPL if any of the franchises bid on him, which should happen thanks to his enormous talent and potential.  

 

Priyam Garg

The newly named Indian U19 captain Priyam Garg is just 19 and will be leading India’s defense in South Africa next year in the world event. He has been amazing since his debut in 2018, having played 12 FC matches scoring 867 runs with two centuries and the best score of 206.

In 15 List A games, Garg has 539 runs with one century, while in 11 T20 matches he has 227 runs. Such an impressive record is what IPL franchises look for while investing in young talents with future in mind and that is why Garg may attract bids in the upcoming auction.

 

Yashasvi Jaiswal

17-year-old Yashasvi Jaiswal is making a big name for himself, especially after his exploits in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, where he became the youngest to score a double century in a List A game. He achieved the feat against Jharkhand and has 677 runs in the last 9 matches in the format at a strike rate of 94.55.

Jaiswal will be a part of the Indian U19 World Cup team which will travel to South Africa to defend their crown in 2020 and there are many hopes from the young and talented opener to do much of the damage. His aggressive batting style will make him a must-buy talent for the franchise in the upcoming IPL auction.
