Rishabh Pant made a sensational return to Test cricket after almost two years.
Rishabh Pant produced a stellar performance with the bat in India’s second innings of the first Test against Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.
This is Pant's first Test match since his horrific car accident in December 2022. The wicketkeeper-batter, who scored 39 in the first innings, notched up his sixth hundred in the second essay.
Pant was batting on 12* at stumps on Day 2 and he took the Bangladesh attack to the cleaners on the third day. His century came in 124 deliveries, and it was studded with 13 boundaries and 4 sixes.
During his 109-run knock off 128 balls, the southpaw was involved in a 167-run partnership with Shubman Gill, who stayed unbeaten on 119 as India declared their second innings on 287/4, setting a colossal 515-run target for the visitors.
With his sixth century in the format, Rishabh Pant has now equalled former captain MS Dhoni for the most tons by an Indian wicketkeeper in Test cricket.
As soon as he reached the three-figure mark with a double off Shakib Al Hasan, the fans and the Indian dugout gave a standing ovation to Pant. Star batter Virat Kohli, who was in his training kit, also applauded the swashbuckling left-hander.
