Yashasvi Jaiswal was knocked over by Jasprit Bumrah during the training session.
Yashasvi Jaiswal has taken the cricketing world by storm with his swashbuckling batting exploits in the last one year. He amassed 712 runs at an average of 89 in the five-Test series against England at home earlier this year, which made him the fastest Indian to score 1000 runs in the longest format.
The southpaw is all set to open the innings in the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh, starting on September 19 at Chepauk.
Ahead of the series, however, Jaiswal left the Indian camp worried with his struggles in the nets, requiring both head coach Gautam Gambhir and former captain Virat Kohli to step in.
According to a report published in The Indian Express, Jaiswal was knocked over by ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah during the training session on Sunday (September 15). The incident happened when Kohli was waiting for his turn to bat and stood beside the centre-square of the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
Getting dismissed by one of the best bowlers of the modern era is not a big deal, but Jaiswal’s struggle against Bumrah prompted Kohli to pull over the youngster for a chat.
Jaiswal also had a tough time against Akash Deep, who troubled the batter during their Duleep Trophy clash last week. The 22-year-old didn’t look comfortable while facing Mohammed Siraj and Yudhvir Singh, the net bowler from Jammu Kashmir, as well.
The report claimed that Kohli had a short conversation with Jaiswal after Bumrah dismissed him, but the struggle remained as the opening batter took guard again.
After Kohli, Gambhir came to Jaiswal’s rescue as the head coach took the left-hander to the nets area for a 20-minute training session. Jaiswal faced throw downs with a focus on getting behind the line.
India will play a total of 10 Tests in the next five months. The series against Bangladesh will be followed by three Tests against New Zealand at home in October-November and then five Test matches as part of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia.
In particular, the tour of Australia will be a litmus test for Yashasvi Jaiswal’s batting skills against the quality fast bowlers.
Meanwhile, the report further suggested that Jaiswal did not show any struggles against spinners, which will be India's prime focus in the series against Bangladesh and New Zaland.
