IND v BAN 2024: India’s squad for Bangladesh Test series likely to be announced after first round of Duleep Trophy

India are due to host Bangladesh in two Test matches later this month.

The Ajit Agarkar-led BCCI selection committee is likely to unveil the Indian Test squad for the upcoming series against Bangladesh after the end of the first round of Duleep Trophy 2024 matches, slated to begin on Thursday (September 5).

India are due to host Bangladesh in two Test matches. The series is slated to get underway on September 19 in Chennai. It will be India’s first Test series since beating England at home at the start of the year.

Performances in the Duleep Trophy will influence selections for the upcoming home Test matches against Bangladesh and New Zealand.

India’s leading cricketers, barring captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravichandran Ashwin, have been named for the domestic red-ball tournament.

Shubman Gill, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shreyas Iyer will lead Team A, Team B, Team C and Team D in the competition. It will also feature KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Axar Patel, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, Sarfaraz Khan among others.

According to a report in ESPNCricinfo, BCCI will announce the squad for Bangladesh Test series after the opening round of Duleep Trophy, which will be played from September 5 to 8 in Bengaluru and Anantapur.

The selected players will later attend a training camp in Chennai on September 12 ahead of the opening Test against the highly-confident Bangladesh team, which completed a historic 2-0 series sweep against Pakistan on Tuesday (September 3).

Following the Bangladesh series, India will play three Tests at home against New Zealand before travelling to Australia for five red-ball matches.

The Indian team is currently leading WTC standings with 68.52 percentage points and could seal their place in the WTC final for the third straight time if they can maintain their unbeaten record at home against Bangladesh and New Zealand.
