IND v NZ 2023: BCCI announces India squads for New Zealand T20I and ODI series

New Zealand to play three ODIs and three T20Is against India.

The BCCI, On Friday, January 13, 2023, announced the Team India squads for the upcoming three-match ODI and three-T20I series which will begin on January 18 onwards.

The teams are slated to play the ODIs first with the first match to be played in Hyderabad on January 18, the second in Raipur on January 21, and the third in Indore on January 24. This will be followed by three T20Is which will be played in Ranchi on January 27, Lucknow on January 29, and in Ahmedabad on February 1st.

New Zealand have already named their squads for the T20I and ODI series where Kane Williamson and Tim Southee have been rested from the entire tour and Tom Latham will captain the side in ODIs and Mitchell Santner will lead in T20Is.

On the Indian side, most of the squad that played against Sri Lanka in ODIs recently was retained for the New Zealand series as well. 

KL Rahul and Akshar Patel have been rested for these series due to personal commitments. KS Bharat has been called up as a wicketkeeper for ODIs. Shardul Thakur and Shahbaz Ahmed have also been added in the ODI squad.

Rohit Sharma (C), Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, KS Bharat (wk), Hardik Pandya (vc), Washington Sundar, Shahbaz Ahmed, Shardul Thakur, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohd. Shami, Mohd. Siraj, Umran Malik

In the T20Is, Hardik Pandya will continue to captain the Indian side, as senior players like Rohit Sharma, Mohammad Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Virat Kohli, and others have been rested as they prepare for the Australia Tests which begin from February 9 onwards.

Jitesh Sharma has been retained as the second keeper for T20Is, while Prithvi Shaw has been recalled to the T20I side. The rest of the side is similar to that which played against Sri Lanka.
