IND v AUS 2023: David Warner ruled out of Delhi Test due to concussion, replacement named

Warner was hit on the head by a Mohammed Siraj bouncer on Day 1 of Delhi Test.

In a major blow to Australia, veteran opener David Warner has been ruled out of the second Test in Delhi after suffering a concussion. Matt Renshaw was named as his concussion substitute, Cricket Australia confirmed ahead of the second day's play.

Warner was hit on the head by a Mohammed Siraj bouncer on Day 1 and the southpaw didn’t take the field during India's innings later in the final session.

“David Warner will take no further part in the second Test match against India in Delhi having been diagnosed with concussion. He will be replaced in the team by Matthew Renshaw,” CA said in a statement.

“Warner was struck on the helmet by fast bowler Mohammed Siraj in the tenth over of play. He subsequently demonstrated symptoms and failed a concussion test. Warner will now follow the graduated return to sport protocols ahead of the third Test in Indore in line with Cricket Australia guidelines,” it added.

Warner is struggling for runs in the ongoing Test tour of India. The left-hander has registered scores of 1, 10 and 15 in three innings so far with Mohammad Shami getting him twice with fuller-length deliveries angling in. As a result, questions have been raised over his technique.

Australia will be hoping for concussion substitute Matt Renshaw to do well in the second innings of Delhi Test. Renshaw, who got out for 0 and 2 in the Nagpur Test, was left out of the side as Travis Head returned to the line-up.
