Virat Kohli made 77 runs and took two catches.
Delhi and Gujarat had clashed in the Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT 2025-26) Elite Group D match at the CoE ground 1 in Bengaluru on December 26, 2025. Delhi was coming off a brilliant win over Andhra Pradesh, while Gujarat had defeated Services in their tournament opener.
Gujarat captain Chintan Gaja won the toss and chose to bowl first. Delhi found themselves in trouble after losing openers Arpit Rana and Priyansh Arya for cheap. However, Virat Kohli counterattacked brilliantly, hammering 77 in 61 balls with 13 fours and one six to his name.
Then, captain Rishabh Pant made 70 in 79 balls with eight fours and two sixes, while Harsh Tyagi made 40 as Delhi made 254/9 in 50 overs. Vishal Jayaswal took four wickets, while Ravi Bishnoi took two wickets.
Gujarat openers Aarya Desai (57) and Urvil Patel (31) gave a good start, while Saurav Chauhan made 49 in 43 balls. But Gujarat kept losing wickets at crucial times, and despite some cameos, including 26 by Vishal Jayaswal, they could only muster 247 runs in 47.2 overs and lost the game by 7 runs.
Prince Yadav took three wickets, while Ishant Sharma and Arpit Rana took two wickets each for Delhi.
But the Player of the Match award went to Virat Kohli, who made 77 runs and took two catches. However, unlike the large sums of money granted in international cricket, which he is used to, the number on the giant cheque read INR 10,000.
The number was consistent with domestic contests in India, but Kohli's followers couldn't help but mock the amount. Kohli is one of the world's richest athletes, with a reputed net worth of over 1,000 crores in 2025, and the POTM figure would hardly make a dent in the cricketer's personal wealth.
