CWC 2019: Most Valuable Player from each team of the World Cup

CWC 2019: Most Valuable Player from each team of the World Cup

Here are the players who left a big mark on the tournament.

By Jatin Sharma - 17 Jul, 2019

The ICC World Cup 2019 ended up with England becoming the first time ODI World Champions and creating history with what can be termed as the best final in the history of the tournament. The players probably aged like a decade in what was an amazing match of 102 overs and still, the winner was decided by boundary count.

Each and every team performed as per the skills of their players and form of their squad. However, there was one player in each team that stood with exceptional performances throughout the tournament.

Therefore, the Team COC has selected one such valuable player from each of the participating teams who managed to rise above others thanks to the runs they made or wickets they took, or both.

Here is the Most Valuable Player from each team of the World Cup 2019

England - Jofra Archer

20 wickets in the World Cup and a stunning Super Over in the finals, Jofra Archer justified him being fast-tracked into playing for England and then his selection in the World Cup squad, possibly at the cost of David Willey. He showed his caliber early in the tournament and even scared a few batsmen with his lethal bouncers harming them. His ability to generate pace from that smooth runup and getting bounce form that awkward length made him a difficult bowler to get away.

New Zealand- Kane Williamson

Kane Williamson was a one-man army in the batting unit of the runners up. He rarely got support from Ross Taylor or Jimmy Neesham and with the openers failing to give a good start, often found himself batting inside the first 10 overs. His strike rate of around 75 might make some fans raise some fingers at him, but he single-handedly won the team many encounters including his two brilliant centuries against West Indies and South Africa. His Player of the Tournament award was well justified with over 570 runs.

India- Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma came into this tournament with not very good form. but he found some after a couple of matches and continued it throughout until the semi-finals. He broke the world record of four centuries in the tournament previously held by Kumar Sangakkara by making five in the 2019 World Cup. He ended up with 648 runs to his name and his best innings came against rivals Pakistan where he slammed 140 runs to take India to 336 and helped India make it 7-0 against the Men in Green in World cup cricket.

Australia- Mitchell Starc

Mitchell Starc had a lot to prove in this tournament given that he was coming in without having any form behind him. But he picked up two five-wicket hauls and two four-wicket hauls in the tournament and ended up taking 27 wickets, bettering his performance from 2015 edition. Starc will be pleased with his record but saddened with Australia not making it into the finals.

Pakistan- Mohammad Amir

Mohammad Amir picked 17 wickets in the whole tournament in what was a poor performance by the Pakistani team. Had he gotten the kind of support from Shaheen Afridi at the start of the tournament, instead of partnering up with Hasan Ali, Amir would have done more for his team. His best bowling was against Australia, where he picked 5/30 and also picked three wickets against India.

South Africa- Faf du Plessis

South Africa had a terrible World Cup campaign as they started by losing their first three matches, including one to Bangladesh. They never managed to recover from those losses, but managed to finish on a high by beating Australia. Faf du Plessis made 387 runs with one century and three fifties in the tournament and saved some face to show back at home.

Bangladesh- Shakib-Al-Hasan

Shakib-Al-Hasan was the star of the ICC World Cup 2019 with 606 runs and 11 wickets to his name. He scored two centuries and also five half-centuries in 8 innings and also picked a five-wicket haul in the tournament as well. Shakib was the lynchpin of the Bangla batting and had he gotten some more support from other bowlers in his team, Bangladesh may have done something else.

Sri Lanka- Lasith Malinga

Lasith Malinga made sure that his last World Cup counted for something. Though Sri Lanka failed to have any real impact on the tournament, Malinga shined a lot and his biggest achievement was helping his team stun hosts England. He picked 13 wickets in the tournament with the best bowling of 4/43.

West Indies- Nicholas Pooran

Nicholas Pooran has been named junior Gayle and he made sure that he lived upto that reputation. He was the highest run-getter for the Caribbean team with 367 runs and scored his first ODI century against Sri Lanka. The Men in Maroon have unearthed a brilliant gem of an aggressive batsman in Pooran and they need to invest in him properly.

Afghanistan- Mohammad Nabi

Veteran Afghanistan all-rounder Mohammad Nabi made his country proud in their second World Cup showing. He made 107 runs and picked 10 wickets for them in 9 matches and his half-century against India almost took the team to an upset win over the former World Champions.
