Bangladesh registered a nail-biting one-wicket victory over India in the first ODI.
Chasing 187 to win, the hosts were tottering at 136/9 in the 40th over. They were staring at a comprehensive defeat but Mehidy Hasan turned out to be a hero with the bat amid the pressure situation.
Mehidy (38* off 39 balls) shared an unbeaten 51-run partnership for the last wicket with Mustafizur Rahman (10*) to take Bangladesh over the finishing line with four overs to spare.
The visitors had their fair share of mistakes in the match and the most costly one was the drop catch of Mehidy during the 43rd over of Bangladesh's innings.
Mehidy Hasan went for a slog against Shardul Thakur and got a top edge. Wicketkeeper KL Rahul made the effort to reach the ball but despite getting both gloves, he dropped it.
In the same over, Mehidy sliced a wider delivery from Shardul into the night sky. The ball fell in the third-man region where Washington Sundar was placed but he did not make any effort to take the catch, which left India skipper Rohit Sharma fuming.
