Rohit Sharma was seen shadow batting at striker's end as Smith looked at him.
This also led to Australia captain Tim Paine and other former Australian cricketers to come out and defend the star batsman in press and public.
However, on day 4 of the fourth and final Test at Gabba, Brisbane, India opener and vice-captain Rohit Sharma, decided to give Smith a dose of his own medicine, as during a drinks break, the Indian batsman went to the striker's end and decided to shadow bat.
While Smith looked in Rohit’s direction, he did not react to Rohit’s gestures but kept observing him.
Smith might not have reacted to Rohit mocking him and his mannerisms, but former India opener Wasim Jaffer did. Jaffer, who has upped his social media presence by using memes to describe ongoing cricket incidents, took to Twitter to troll smith.
He used a meme from the movie “Jolly LLB” and mentioned “Meanwhile Smith to Rohit:”
All laughs aside, Rohit Sharma will be important for India as they look to chase down 324 more runs when he and Shubman Gill come out to resume the play on day 5 at 4/0.
A draw will help India retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, but a win here will not only hand them the trophy, but a historic series win as well, in which they played without their first-choice players and the youngsters stepped up.
