There was a loud appeal for LBW after Steve Smith missed a delivery of R Ashwin.
Australia batsman Steve Smith survived a close DRS call on the third day of the Sydney Test against India. The incident happened during the 12th over of Australia's innings, bowled by R Ashwin.
Ashwin managed to beat Smith after the latter tried to go for a slog-sweep but missed the ball completely. Only the bowler looked convinced despite the umpire turning down the shout of LBW.
The delivery was found to be just clipping the leg stump after India went upstairs believing they have got Smith's wicket.
Smith survived because of the umpire's call but what triggered a controversy was the flawed ball tracking. Initially, it looked like going down the leg side and missing the stumps completely.
But DRS showed otherwise and it surprised the Twitterati. After a close look at the decision, a fan spotted that there were 4 stumps in the picture and the off-stump of hawkeye was shifted way rightwards than the actual stump. India managed to retain their review after the umpire's call.
Twitterati were in disbelief of inaccuracy from the hawkeye. They reacted shockingly to the blunder. Here are the tweets:
